It is a sizable building with shops on both sides that resembles a tunnel and was finished in 1589. One of Edirne’s specialties, soap in the form of fruits and vegetables, is available there. At the meeting point of the Meric and Arda rivers, Meric Bridge (New Bridge) was constructed between 1842 and 1847. All that is left of the tower that once guarded the main gate of the citadel is Kule Kapisi, a tower gate from the 12th century. The Hadrianic defensive system was repaired as a part of it by the Byzantine emperor John Comnenus II (1118–1143). The largest complex in Edirne, Beyazit Kulliyesi included a mosque and a medical facility renowned for the skill of its practitioners.

Meric Bridge (New Bridge) was constructed at the junction of the Meric and Arda rivers between 1842-1847. Kule Kapisi (a 12th-century tower gate) is all that remains of the tower, which once protected the principal gate of the citadel. It was rebuilt by the Byzantine emperor John Comnenus II (1118-1143) as part of his repair of the Hadrianic defensive system. Beyazit Kulliyesi is the largest in Edirne, the complex had a mosque and a hospital which was famous for the skill of its surgeons.
